
HEAD COACH:
Butch May
Butch was a member of the United States Olympic team in 1968 and a member of
the U.S. National team from 1965 to 1969. He has competed in 31 National Championships
earning "All American" honors 25 times. He was a member of the 1964
Collegiate National Champion Santa Monica College team. He also competed on
the beach for many years earning AAA status as well as being considered the
finest "mixed" doubles player of all time. (Over an 18-year career
he participated in 26 tournaments capturing 22 firsts, 3 seconds and 1 third
with three different female partners.) Butch also has an extensive background
in club volleyball, coaching at the national, regional and local level. His
most recent claim to fame is that he is the father
of Misty May, selected the 1997 and 1998 NCAA Division I Woman's Volleyball
Player of the Year while competing at Long Beach State College. Misty has also
competed
in the 2000 Sydney Olympics in Beach Volleyball, finishing 5th and the 2004
Athens Olympics, where she and her partner Karri Walsh won the gold medal.
